Welcome

Thanks to everyone who visited our booth at the 2008 World Pork Expo.
Congratulations to Sammy Wipt of Mountain Lake, MN, the winner of the Garmin Nuvi.

Pork production is an ever-changing industry. A number of external (feed prices, consumer demand) and internal (mortality, health) challenges create continual pressure on producers to find innovative ways to stay profitable. Some critical management areas include:

  • Sow proficiency - more piglets per litter
  • Litter birth weights - healthier live births
  • Improving the transition from gestation to farrowing
  • Farrowing stress including
    • Good digestive transit prior to farrowing that leads to less constipation
    • Rapid lactation setup
    • Reduced farrowing duration by limiting the change in intestinal microflora
  • Weaning stress

The ban on antibiotics in Europe has led to the development of many new technologies. These developments are equally valuable to producers in North America where the additives can help improve herd health and cost performance.

High prolific sows can be economically very effective, as long as sow and piglet management and nutrition are carefully adapted. Digestive microflora has an importance on sow health and behavior around and during farrowing, and most importantly the condition of the piglets. Field results show the use of specific probiotic yeast can present an effective tool to help attain these objectives and optimize the total farrowing process.

With today's high feed cost, feeding a probiotic can be less expensive and more effective than high fiber by decreasing the total cost per ton of feed and increase the feed efficiency. The goal of this web site is to provide credible resources for producers to make educated decisions and continue to produce profitable pigs.
