Salmonella

General Bacteria Challenges  |   Clostridium difficile  |   Escherichia coli  |   Salmonella  |

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that are often associated with food poisoning. There are many different varieties of Salmonella bacteria, and each offers a different severity of the common symptoms of stomach cramping, diarrhea and fever. The diarrhea can be quite severe, and dehydration of the animal is often an issue. Salmonella is frequently transmitted by infected animals. Salmonella is also a concern in the human food supply, so controlling bacteria in food animals can reduce the bacteria load of the human food supply. The effects of Salmonella can be reduced or limited by reducing the bacteria's food supply or reducing the concentration of the population through out-competing or pathogen binding (both Modes of Action of probiotics and prebiotics).
